What is the history of Albania before it became part of the Ottoman Empire

Before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire, Albania has a rich history dating back to ancient times. The Illyrians, an ancient Indo-European people, inhabited the region, and various Illyrian tribes formed small kingdoms. The area witnessed Roman influence in the 2nd century BCE, eventually becoming part of the Roman Empire.

After the Roman Empire's decline, the Byzantine Empire exerted control over the region. However, by the 7th century, Slavic migrations and invasions impacted Albania.

In the 11th century, the Normans, Venetians, and Byzantines struggled for control. In the late 12th century, the Kingdom of Arbanon emerged, but it was short-lived. The region experienced feudal fragmentation and conflicts.

By the late 14th century, the Ottoman Turks began their conquest of the Balkans. Albania resisted Ottoman rule under the leadership of figures like Skanderbeg, who successfully defended the region for a considerable time. However, after Skanderbeg's death in 1468, the Ottomans gradually gained control, and Albania officially became part of the Ottoman Empire.
